Gene by Gene understands the extreme importance of increasing the nation’s access to COVID-19 testing to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus in our communities. In response to this public health crisis, we are working around the clock to help meet the critical demand for testing.
Patients who have COVID-19 symptoms should consult a physician or other healthcare provider. Only a healthcare provider can collect the specimen necessary to test for COVID-19. Patients suspected of having COVID-19 MUST NOT ENTER Gene by Gene’s place of business.

What types of specimens do we require for COVID-19 testing?
Gene by Gene’s COVID-19 testing requires specimens collected from the nose, which must be collected by a healthcare provider. The preferred sample types are nasal swabs. Gene by Gene also offers saliva testing services for COVID-19 testing upon request.
What is Gene by Gene’s testing capacity?
Gene by Gene is able to perform approximately 10,000 COVID-19 tests per day. We will continue to add instrumentation and work with our vendors to procure supplies as our ability to expand our capacity depends on the availability of these supplies.
What is the test methodology?
The COVID-19 tests performed by Gene by Gene are qualitative assays using real-time reverse transcription PCR test (real time RT-PCR) technology.
How long will it take for Gene by Gene to report results?
Results are typically reported to the healthcare provider in less than 24 hours from the time of arrival at the laboratory. This time frame can vary based on demand.
How do I get patient results?
Providers will receive a phone call or fax if the test result is positive or inconclusive. All test results will be shared with the Texas Department of Health and CDC for statistical information.
Will COVID-19 test results be reported to local and state public health entities?
All test results will be shared with the Texas Department of Health and CDC for statistical information. However, healthcare providers may also be required to report positive patients to the appropriate public health agency.
