She leads the team responsible for clinical and relationship testing and oversees laboratory operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, reviewing reports, and serving as a departmental liaison during inspections and audits. Dr. Jiménez-López holds a NYSDoH CQ in Molecular Genetic Testing and Parentage Testing, collaborating with Gene by Gene’s Medical Laboratory Director, Dr. Feng Zhou, on numerous projects.
Claudia's journey at Gene by Gene began as a Research Scientist and then transitioned to Assistant Laboratory Director before being promoted to Laboratory Director in recognition of her significant contributions.
Claudia's impressive educational background has earned her widespread respect. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, with minors in Chemistry and Biology, from the University of Houston-Downtown in 2008. She then pursued her doctoral studies at UTHSC-H. As an undergraduate at the University of Houston-Downtown, Claudia was actively involved in research, working in the Department of Natural Sciences studying bacterial biofilms. She also conducted research at the Technical University of Lodz, Poland, focusing on computational analysis of molecular interactions.
Her research continued with her postdoctoral and graduate work at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHSC-H) in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, under the supervision of Dr. Michael C. Lorenz. Her research focused on the regulation of the Candida albicans arginine biosynthetic pathway and the interactions between Candida albicans and the mammalian immune system.
Claudia boasts a strong publication record, with several peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals such as PLoS Pathogens and PLOS Genetics. She has also presented her research at numerous conferences, receiving awards for outstanding presentations. Her academic achievements have been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including a Dean's Research Scholarship, the UHD Excellence in Microbiology Award, and the distinction of being a Commencement Speaker. She was also a member of the Scholars Academy at UHD.
